Best Business Cards Ever

I'm finally organizing the 120+ biz cards I collected at BEA. First I'm alphabetizing them, then will update my address book. (Dorothy's observation about Oz holds for publishing houses too: "People come and go so quickly here!"). After that I'll neatly lay out the cards--still in alpha order, of course--scan them and email the scans to my masters at VaBook. Hey, it keeps me off the streets and out of the pool halls.

Here are my two favorite cards so far:
  • Copper Canyon Press -- The reverse has a quote from Kenneth Rexroth:
"I've had it with these cheap sons
of bitches who claim they love
poetry but never buy a book."

  • Budding writer J. Tynan Burke -- A black box at the bottom of his vertical card has white type stating: "Tall, attractive recent Stanford grad; linen coat, striped shirt; met at BEA." Didn't remember his name, but as soon as I read the description, I said to myself, "Oh yeah, that guy!" (And he is tall and attractive.)

The Rexroth quote is one for my files. That made me laugh out loud!

That line on the Tynan card would have made me tear it up and throw it away immediately.

Perhaps that's a sex-based reaction. I can't say. I can say that I find that line offensive and boorishly smug.

Seems like J. Tynan Burke could have also put "The effete twit who you wanted to punch in the face" in that little black box on his business card and been similarly identifiable.

Business cards are the same things both they are used in business and in organizations. Every company has its own business card which is well designed and name.ngo visiting cards
